Reliable and responsive Bb cornet for beginners

The YCR2330III is Yamaha’s entry level Bb cornet outfit and an ideal first purchase for young students. Like all their beginner instruments, it has been precisely designed and manufactured with an emphasis on a high standard of playability and reliable intonation. This musical approach gives the cornet a long lifespan and provides the most satisfying start for aspiring brass players.
Its tubing starts with a medium-large bore diameter of 0.459” (11.65mm) eventually flaring into a 4 ¾” (120.65mm) bell, and is wrapped in a traditional shepherd’s crook design. This is made from hard yellow brass with a copper-heavy rose brass lead pipe that makes it easier to control and stabilise the cornet’s sound and adds warmth to the tone. The bell is made in two pieces and joined using Yamaha’s Pluzuma laser welding technique which ensures perfectly even vibration at any volume.
Among many small alterations made to the design for this third-generation model, Yamaha have added extra durable monel alloy pistons and new bottom caps and buttons to the valves, thereby improving the cornet’s longevity and optimising its tone. An adjustable third slide trigger makes it possible for musicians of any age to learn proper technique comfortably, but both slides and valves should be lubricated regularly to maintain a responsive action. Two water keys facilitate the expulsion of unwanted moisture which can cause corrosion if left to build up.
Each cornet comes in a hard case with shoulder straps and includes everything a beginner will need: a Yamaha 11E4 cornet mouthpiece, a bottle of valve oil, and a cleaning cloth. There are two finishes available: gold epoxy lacquer or silver plate (the finish doesn’t make a noticeable difference to the cornet’s tone).
