Superb oboe outfit for students of all levels
This high specification student oboe from John Packer delivers an easy response and beautiful tone that is worthy of a much more expensive instrument. It exhibits a level of refinement that will be appreciated by advanced oboists but is also friendly to beginners. The oboe’s body is made of Ebonite, a hard rubber that has been used to build instruments for more than a century. This material has comparable resonant properties to wood while being much more resilient to temperature and humidity changes, and is not susceptible to cracking or warping. Its silver plated keywork features plateau style keys and extra-quiet white leather pads. Oboes normally come in one of two key layouts – thumb plate (UK) or conservatoire (USA) – and each has its advantages and disadvantages where intonation is concerned. The dual system on the JP181 combines the best of both mechanisms without any sacrifice to tone or playability. An adjustable thumb rest on the back of the instrument makes it possible for oboists of all ages to find a comfortable playing position. Each oboe comes in a hard case with moulded interior and a soft outer bag with a shoulder strap. Outfits also include cleaning materials and cork grease but no reed is supplied. A medium soft reed is generally recommended for beginners, but ask you teacher if you’re unsure.
