JP Instruments JP042G Bb tenor saxophone outfit

John Packer’s JP042 is a full-sized Bb tenor saxophone designed for beginners and often recommended by teachers as the ideal starter instrument owing to its proven reliability. It’s also a remarkably capable sax that will easily see students through to grade 6.

The JP042’s fully ribbed brass body is extremely sturdy without being unusually heavy and, in conjunction with the underslung octave mechanism and key resonators, provides the instrument with a stable and powerful tone that is unique among beginner saxes. Decorative bell engraving, a sleek gold lacquer finish, and pearl topped keywork means it looks as good as it sounds too!

Its keywork features a floating plate for the left hand little finger cluster, high F# and front F keys, and robust double spined B and C keys, all of which aid fluid fingering technique as students improve. Waterproof Italian leather pads and rust resistant blue steel springs also make for a long lasting and responsive action.

An adjustable thumb plate and sling hook on the back ensure that players of any age will find the instrument comfortable to hold and play. There’s also a socket for a lyre box attachment (not included) to hold sheet music when marching. Each tenor sax outfit comes in a hard oblong case with plenty of room for sheet music and accessories, and includes a JP5C mouthpiece and mouthpiece cap, a reed and ligature, neck sling, and a polishing cloth.
