Quality student saxophone
The Conn-Selmer DAS180 alto sax is a superb student instrument. Priced to compare with the Yamaha YAS280 but arguably with a more attractive pedigree. Conn and Selmer are two of the most widely revered names in saxophone manufacture with each company producing legendary, classic models. The companies have now joined forces and the DAS180 model is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when two such manufacturers come together.
Perhaps we should start by saying that any potential customer interested in a Yamaha YAS280, (a fine instrument), should certainly try this model too. Specification includes leather pads with metal resonators to enhance the sound quality with a tight air seal along with an adjustable thumb rest for ease of playing. It is finished nicely in brass coloured lacquer and has a nicely engraved, reinforced bell. However, it is different to the Yamaha offering. It somehow has a jazzier sound, the action is smooth and easy whilst the whole instrument is free blowing and comparatively lightweight.
It is certainly a left field choice but for those who already have even the slightest grasp of how to play the saxophone may well find that this is the model for them. Be aware though, once you are on the slippery slope of Conn-Selmer ownership you may not want to leave it!
Supplied with this outfit are a padded gig bag style hard case, Rousseau Jazz mouthpiece, rovner ligature and cap.
