Responsive Bb baritone horn for beginners
Elkhart’s 100BH non-compensating Bb baritone horn is a friendly starter instrument for aspiring low brass players. Like all their entry level brass instruments it is built to last and designed to make a beginner’s learning journey as easy as possible.
A baritone is similar in size and range to the euphonium, but has a narrower bore and smaller flare giving it a lighter and more focused tone. The 100BH is made from yellow brass with a copper-heavy rose brass lead pipe. Using this softer material for the first bit of tubing ensures a reliable response and allows for easier control of tone which in turn will support inexperienced players and encourage practice.
It is built in the English brass band style which means that all the tubing (except the bell of course, which points straight up) is wrapped below the baritone horn’s valve block. The three piston valves themselves are made from hardy stainless steel, and each can be fine-tuned by moving the attached nickel silver slides in or out. There's also a lyre socket on the side of the valve block for use in marching bands (attachment not included).
The outfit is supplied in a lightweight gig bag case with an Elkhart 7C mouthpiece, a bottle of valve oil to keep the moving parts lubricated, and a polishing cloth to keep the clear lacquer finish looking as good as new.
