Description
The cor Anglais or English horn is a medium sized double reed instrument with a large egg shaped bell that produces a uniquely melancholic sound. It is a transposing instrument that reads in F and its range sits between the oboe and bassoon. It is normally played as a doubling instrument by oboists.

Howarth of London have been manufacturing oboes and cor Anglais exclusively for more than 50 years and their specialist knowledge is respected all over the world. Their S20-COR is the ideal first cor Anglais for young oboists looking to expand their skill set. Its specification is equivalent to the S20 intermediate oboe and so it would make the perfect doubling instrument for players of that model.

Its body is made from traditional African blackwood which is now a CITES registered protected species, meaning musicians should keep their invoice to show as a proof of legal purchase when travelling abroad. The English horn’s body dismantles into 3 sections for storage and cleaning and, like all Howarth instruments, has been carefully shaped, tuned, and finished entirely by hand.

Keywork is laid out in the English style ‘thumbplate’ system and is made from nickel with an ultra-smooth thick silver coating. It features closed plateau keys, semi-automatic octaves and a whole range of advanced mechanisms including: forked F venting, a low Bb vent, left-hand C-D, C-C# and right-hand C-D trill keys, low B-C and C-Bb links, and adjustment screws for top C# and F#/G# links.

Every outfit comes supplied in a protective hard case with moulded interior, and includes a crook and some cleaning accessories. Please note: no reed is included.
