Congas are tall hand drums that were born from a fusion of African and Cuban cultures in the late 19th century and continue to feature heavily in the music of countries on both sides of the Atlantic. They are traditionally constructed from curved wooden slats like barrels, but many modern congas are made with cheaper and louder fibreglass shells.
The Toca Synergy conga drums are professional grade instruments priced at a level that beginners can afford. Each pair consists of an 11” conga drum and a 10” quinto drum, both of which are 28” tall. Their shells are handmade by experienced craftsmen and built from 2-ply maple wood which is sourced from an environmentally friendly plantation in Thailand. They are finished in a choice of three high gloss finishes – natural wood, Rio red, or Bahama blue.
Each drum is topped with a thick rawhide skin for an authentic and versatile tone. These are tightened and tuned using the 5 chrome lugs which connect all the extremely durable powder coated hardware together. The top rim is specially rounded to make them comfortable to play for long sessions.
A pair of sturdy Toca basket stands is also included. These bases are adjustable making it possible for players of any size to find their ideal playing height and angle. Unlike more common double stands, baskets prevent the drum moving at all when struck and offer complete flexibility in positioning.
